Dear fellow bridge players,
The Fredericton Duplicate Bridge Club will be hosting a qualifying event on Tuesday August 11th, (7:00 p.m., Fredericton Inn) for the North American Pairs (NAP) competition. The NAP event has been a major ACBL pair championship since 1979 and was originally known as the Grand National Pairs. This grassroots event is staged in qualifying rounds at the club, unit and district levels. It culminates in a final held in conjunction with the 2016 Spring NABC, in Reno, NV.
Those who qualify at the game on August 11th are eligible to participate in the District qualifying event in Moncton or Halifax (depends on the number of points you have as to which location) the end of October or the first weekend in November. Those who finish first at the District qualifier will receive a financial subsidy to travel to Reno to represent Eastern Canada in the NAPs in Reno. However, to participate in the District qualifier, players must first qualify at a club event and be a current member of the ACBL. Thus our event on August 11th.
There will be three stratifications for the District events held in Oct/Nov:
Flight “A” (open) is available for ALL members of the ACBL
Flight “B” is limited to players with LESS THAN 2500 Masterpoints
Flight “C” is limited to Non-Life Master players with less than 500 Masterpoints
All three flights will be providing a financial subsidy to the winners travelling to Reno. This financial subsidy will include a contribution from the district. There may also be a financial contribution from the Unit as well as your local club (depends on the club).
We hope you can join us on Tuesday evening for this qualifying event. No pre-registration is required – simply join up with your partner at 7:00 p.m.
In the meantime, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or Mike Wood (firstname.lastname@example.org).
PS The sessions on Defensive Strategy and Signalling and Slam Bidding with Barbara Seagram on Sept. 17th are filling quickly (we have 60 registrants to date). Should you wish to participate and have not registered, please contact Mike at the email above.
